Dr Faid Mohammed Said is Advisory Scholar to RMA, providing guidance on complex matters of Islamic jurisprudence drawn from decades of scholarship, teaching and religious leadership.

His grounding in the Islamic sciences began in his native Eritrea, where he studied under Sheikh Hamid, then the senior judge of the Shariah court in Asmara. He went on to continue his studies in Medina under Sheikh Atiyyah Mohammed Salim, a resident scholar at the Prophet's Mosque and senior judge of the city, before completing a PhD in Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Minnesota in the United States. He is a qualified jurist in the Maliki school and a noted commentator on the Qur'an, with a particular specialism in Arabic. He currently serves as Head of Legal Opinions at the London Central Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre (Regent's Park Mosque), one of Britain's most prominent Islamic institutions, and as General Secretary of the Fatwa and Islamic Affairs Commission.

His scholarship reaches audiences well beyond the mosque: he contributes to the journals of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy and the OIC's Encyclopedia of Moderation, writes a regular column for Saudi Arabia's Makkah newspaper, and has authored several books, including a work on the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and cultural memory. In recognition of his standing, he has been featured in The Muslim 500, the annual publication ranking the world's most influential Muslims. His teaching has taken him from London to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Singapore, Canada, Germany and the Maldives, and he is known among scholars internationally for his emphasis on training imams equipped not only in religious affairs but in the practical realities of leading communities today.

As the RMA's Advisory Scholar, Dr Faid is called upon by RMA for his judgement on matters requiring rigorous, classically grounded scholarship.
